Five Fun Summer Activities Just a Short Drive From Broomfield

Colorado is a special place, just ask anyone who lives here. Majestic mountain peaks, mild climate, more than 300 days of sunshine a year — what’s not to love? Living in Colorado makes you want to spend as much of your time outdoors as possible, which is why summers here are so special. Hot sunny days followed by cool, crisp nights are perfect for taking advantage of all that the Centennial state has to offer.

With summer right around the corner, in today’s blog from Stonegate Living, we’d like to explore some fun activities to do just a short drive from our apartments in Broomfield. Check them out and then make a point to check each one off of your list this summer.

Paddle Boarding on Boulder Reservoir

Although Colorado is a landlocked state, it still has its fair share of water. One popular place to cool off is Boulder Reservoir. Located just a few miles north of Boulder, this popular summer destination includes 700 acres of water and open space. It’s the perfect place to bring your paddleboard and enjoy the day. Not into paddleboarding? That’s ok, you can enjoy any number of water activities including kayaking, swimming, canoeing, and more. Don’t forget to pack a lunch!

Tubing Down Boulder Creek

Tubing down Boulder Creek is a “must-do” if you’re a Northern Colorado resident. Of course, you don’t have to go tubing, you can also swim, or just relax by the river and dip your toes in the water if it’s a bit too chilly to go all in. If you’re ready to take the plunge, all you need is a tube, which you can buy or rent at several places in the area and a few minutes to check the water levels. Early in the season (May and June) the water can be quite cold and swift so you may want to take this into consideration and find the calmest place to enter the water. Of course, you could also plan your tubing for later in the season when the water is slower and warmer. Just don’t wait too long — tubing season is over at the end of August!

Take a Hike!

If you’ve lived in Colorado for any amount of time then you know that there’s no shortage of hiking trails. While you can always make the trip up to Rocky Mountain National Park, there are plenty of other hiking areas much closer to our apartments in Broomfield. One popular hiking area is Flatirons Vista. This three-and-a-half-mile loop trail is located near Boulder and features beautiful scenery including wildflowers in summer. By colorado standards, this is an easy trail that just about anyone can do.

For a little more variety, head over to Chautauqua Park Trailhead where you can choose from over 40 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult. Some of the most popular hikes starting at this trailhead include those going up to the Flatirons and Royal Arch. These trails can get very busy in the summer, so start early for the best experience.

Elitch Gardens

If riding roller coasters and water slides is more your thing, then there’s no better place to go than Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park. Located less than 20 miles from Broomfield, this exciting destination features 13 thrilling roller coaster rides and dozens of other family-friendly rides perfect for kids of all ages. Right next to the theme park is the water park which includes a variety of some of the most exciting water slides as well as a wave pool and action river. Each ticket to Elitch Gardens includes admission to both parks.

Hit a Hole in One

Golfing is another popular summer activity in Colorado and Broomfield is home to a scenic 27-hole championship golf course known as the Interlocken Golf Club. Ranked third in a survey of the best courses of Colorado, it features three 9-hole regulation golf courses that were designed by Graham & Panks International.

If walking for miles just to chase a little white ball isn’t your idea of fun, maybe Top Golf is more your speed. This sprawling entertainment venue is more about out-driving your friends on a high-tech driving range while listening to music and drinking adult beverages. Those who say golfing is no fun have clearly never been to Top Golf!
