Apartment Spring Cleaning Tips

It’s finally that time of year. After a long, dark winter that consisted of social distancing and too much time on the couch, there’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Not only is there an end to the pandemic in our sight, but the longer days and warmer temperatures are also signaling that spring is almost here. Since you’ve probably spent more time than usual hanging around home, chances are it could use a good cleaning. That’s why, in today’s blog from Stonegate Living apartments in Broomfield, we’re going to give you some tips on how to tackle your spring cleaning so you can get it all done in just a few simple steps.

Tip #1 – Stock Up on Supplies

There’s nothing worse than planning your entire day around cleaning and then realizing that you don’t have any more paper towels/cleaner/dusting cloths. So, before you put on your gloves and your ugliest pair of sweats, make a run to the store to stock up on the items you’ll need. Depending on what you already have, here is a list of some of the items you may want to buy:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Glass cleaner
  • Oven cleaner
  • Counter cleaner
  • Bathroom cleaner
  • Dusting cloths
  • Vacuum
  • Mop
  • Bucket

Tip #2 – Get Rid of the Clutter

It’s hard to actually clean floors, counters, and other places if you have clutter lying around preventing you from getting to them. That’s why the first step in your spring cleaning plan should be to take some time to go through your things and either put them away or donate them. Nothing makes a spacious apartment look small and uninviting than having a bunch of unorganized “stuff” sitting around. Make a conscious effort to get rid of the things you’re no longer using, and then find clever ways to organize or put away the rest.

Tip #3 – Make a Plan

If your method of cleaning usually involves starting in one place and then randomly running from room to room as you find more things to put away or clean, then your spring cleaning is going to be very inefficient. To get the most done in the least amount of time, create a plan and stick to it. Start in one room and try not to leave that room until you’re finished. Not only will you save time spent running around your entire apartment three dozen times, but you’ll also enjoy a sense of accomplishment when you can walk into a room and see the progress you’ve made. This is especially important when you’re working on the last room and you’re tired and don’t feel like doing it. Look back at the other rooms you’ve completed and you’ll probably get renewed energy to complete your task.

Tip #4 – Don’t Miss Forgotten Places

It’s easy to remember to wipe down the countertops and scrub the shower, but when was the last time you dusted the blinds or the ceiling fan? Now is the perfect time to tackle those areas that you normally don’t have time (or forget) to clean. A few other often-neglected areas include door handles, air vents, baseboards, and behind appliances.

Tip #5 – Reward Yourself

Once you’ve spent a hard day cleaning your entire apartment, it’s time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. First, why not invest in some new throw pillows or a bouquet of flowers to freshen up your space? While you’re out, grab some take-out from your favorite restaurant and head home to enjoy your freshly-cleaned space. Just don’t forget to clean up after yourself when you’re done.
